Fit a dual flush toilet (small flush and big flush) to save water or put a plastic bottle filled with water in your cistern Lets face it, you don't need the same amount of water for all your "toiletary functions", so fit a dual flush toilet and save 60% of the water you fkush away

How: It dooent cost much to fit dual flush to an existing toilet or even fit a new toilet, but if it is too expensive for you, put a brick in your toilet cistern or a water bottle filled with water

Clean vegetables in a bown NOT running water Leaving a tap running costs between 5 and 15 litres per minute of fresh water, and all the cost, energy and CO2 that goes with it. If you wash something like vegetables, do it in a bowl. What: Use a bowl rather than running water when washing up and cleaning vegetables. This can save between 5 and 10 liters of water per minute

How: Buy a good, old fashioned plastic bowl!

Water your garden Early or Late

If you water a garden, do it early in the morning or late in the eveing During summer months watering during the day is ineffective because of evaporation and not good for your plants (shock!) What: Water the garden in the evening or early morning to avoid water loss by evaporation

If you can collect rainwater for your garden.... or more Rainwater is basicallu free and generally clean What: - Rainwater is better anyway, saves fresh water and the energy costs in producing  and transporting to your house just to be used for the garden

How: In the simplest form, connect a downpipe to a drum. In more complex systems you can use rainwater for all you none dinking water use like toilets etc, Links aplenty

In droughts, let your grass grow longer. This saves water by allowing the grass to create its own shade. What: - Water grass no more than twice a week - Kew Gardens say this. Let it frow long to preserve moisture.

Use "grey" water if you can for your garden Grey water is waste from your sinks and baths and washing machine.... its free What: If you have some control over your plumbing you can use your waste water from sinks etc to water your garden. Just don't use and serious chemicals!

How: You need to know and have control of your plumbing system for this one, big in Germany
